Fool’s 48 Short Film Project

The Fool’s 48 Short Film Project is one of the Vermillion Cultural Association’s featured community events at the Coyote Twin. Local teams have 48 hours to write, film, and edit a 4–7 minute movie. This foolish undertaking is held on (or close to!) April Fool’s Day.

To add a challenge, each team draws a genre from a hat at the Friday evening kickoff event, and all teams must incorporate the same line of dialogue, prop, and location. We then celebrate their work with a public showcase of the films the following Monday.

In 2025, twelve teams entered the fray and ten completed the challenge! Monday, March 31, a sold-out crowd celebrated with a showcase of their work on the big screen at the Coyote Twin. The audience was by turns startled, delighted, scared (!), and charmed.

Watch the showcase now, and then support your friends and neighbors again when it airs on the big screen once more during the second-annual Vortex Film Festival in September.
